Minister of basic education is back with another controversial statement concerning education in South Africa.
In a media briefing yesterday a journalist asked her what the department is doing about fake matric certificates and she said something that was totally uncalled for.
Minister Angie Motshekga said she personally have no problem with people using fake matric certificates. “I know it’s illegal but they are doing it to advance in life and it does not hurt anyone, it helps them get jobs or go to colleges and universities”
If it was up to me no one would be arrested for fake matric certificates it’s a vuk’uzenzele thing
That was not all, Angie went on to say these fake certificates are ultimately helping to grow South Africa’s literacy and economy. “Some people are smart but they don’t have matric and it’s a big setback to them so I really don’t have a problem with fake matric certificates”.
Update: The minister said she thought she was off record and apologised for her statement.
