If you live in Tshwane there is a huge possibility that you’ve at some point ate filthy bread from illegal underground bakery.
16 foreign nationals were arrested yesterday after a tip-off. The gang was running a fake bakery inside an old warehouse. 2000 loaves of bread and R65 000 in cash was seized.
The suspects were making thousands of loaves daily that somehow manages to end up in big supermarkets and spaza shops around Pretoria. Thousands of plastic bags identical to those of Sasko, Sunbake and Blue Ribbon were found. A printing machine for printing expiry dates was also confiscated.
“That has to be the dirtiest place to make food in the whole world, Black grease was flowing all over and the smell was unbearable they were wearing gas masks in there” -Police
People who lives near the warehouse said they used to see trucks from the respective companies and suspect that some delivery drivers are part of the fake bakery and they make stock errors so they can add the bread from the fake bakery into the main stock.
